Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 252

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 252: Six Paths of Samsara (III)

That Fiend Commander’s spiritual energy didn’t reach an amount so terrifying as 10,000, but it still reached 7,000 units. In case their front crumbled, both Demon Hunt Squads would be wiped out .

The Grand Birdy Demon, originating from the Mythic Mirror Image Treasure Pig’s Imitation ability, was sent flying with a single blow, fiercely ramming against the wall behind him. The enormous wound caused him to be unable to even maintain his mirror image appearance, and a heavily wounded Mythic Mirror Image Treasure Pig slumped to the ground.

Han Yu, Wang Yuanyuan, and Sima Xian agreed by chance to throw themselves at the enemy, but with only a single sweeping motion, the Fiend Commander sent the three of them flying, and deep wounds were left on Sima Xian and Han Yu’s bodies.

Inside of the cave, Lin Xin was the only one to maintain a relatively intact fighting strength.

Launching Fire Elemental Shields and Resisting Ring of Fire, the Fire Cloud Crystal Staff held in Lin Xin’s hand was shaking as he acted as the final vanguard of the team. But he was in the end no more but a mage who couldn’t attack!

“Ah–” A screech suddenly sounded behind Lin Xin’s back, and immediately, the noise of a body falling down could be heard. Then, a silvery light appeared with shock under the Fiend Commander’s feet, preventing this malevolent figure from any movement.

Lin Xin suddenly turned back, only to see Yi Jun’s body engulfed by a strong silvery white light, eagerly shouting, “Quick! Attack him, I cannot hold it for long.”

Flames of Life生命之火, that was the Flames of Life! What Yi Jun did was to ignite his own life, but when his life energy would run out, this spell would also end.

The Fiend Commander didn’t move in the slightest, fiercely standing close to Lin Xin, but Lin Xin was a mage that couldn’t attack!

The Soul Sharing Shackles couldn’t alleviate the side effects brought by the pills. When the Spiritual Bursting Pill and the Bloodthirsty Pill’s effects vanished, Han Yu, Wang Yuanyuan, and Sima Xian had all lost their fighting capability, remaining totally devoid of spiritual energy.

“I… I cannot use offensive magic!” Lin Xin declared with a foolish expression on his face.

Luc Xi put all his strength in releasing a last Sacred Bullet against that Fiend Commander, shouting in anger, “Bastard, don’t tell me you cannot even launch the simplest Fireball Technique?”

Inside of the cavern, only Lin Xin had enough spiritual energy left to launch an attack. But at this time, his face was deathly pale, and flames were spouting from the staff in his hand, but he still appeared to be unable to launch a single offensive spell.

“I cannot hold it.” Yi Jun loudly shouted as blood oozed from the seven apertures of his head.

“Ah–” Lin Xin frantically yelled, releasing a Resisting Ring of Fire. With a loud bang, that Fiend Demon was sent flying out of the cave, which also terminated Yi Jun’s magical suppression.

“You…” Yi Jun gave Lin Xin an unresigned look, before sinking in a deep coma.

After the Fiend Commander was sent flying out of the cavern and right as he was prepared to once again launch an attack to massacre everyone inside, a bright light appeared from nowhere, extending to him and producing an ear-piercing hissing sound accompanied by a powerful aura. A surge of an incredible offensive power swept over the place.

The air was compressed, and even if that Fiend Commander possessed 6,000 units of spiritual energy, the last thing he saw in his life was a gigantic three-headed figure appearing out of nowhere, whose body was completely golden.

Bam—

A sword blow struck the enemy directly, whereas the second sword’s blow cut him in two.

The Fiend Commander was cut in half with a single blow, along with the Nightmare Devil Horse underneath. Both halves of his split corpse slowly fell to the ground.

From the backlash of their consumption of spiritual energy, the five Grand Fiends at his back spouted out black blood at the same time.

“Houu—” Haoyue’s released a bellow from his three heads at the same time, immediately sending the five Grand Fiends flying. On his back, Long Haochen’s figure flickered, and on his shoulder, the Light Elemental Fairy Yating incessantly released white rings of light, using Spiritual Gathering Halo to replenish Long Haochen’s spiritual energy at lightning speed.

That’s right! At this situation of life and death, Long Haochen was back. At this moment, as he was holding the two separated parts of Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light in his hands, his body released a glorious halo covering the surroundings. With the help of the Light Elemental Fairy Yating, even without Haoyue, he had confidence to put up a fight against any powerhouse of the sixth step.

Clearly, this attack that hit the Fiend Commander was Asura Strike. Just think of the power an Asura Strike that was released without preparation already possessed. And then, what about an Asura Strike prepared in a state of Storing Power?

On Haoyue’s back, Long Haochen had been focusing on understanding Asura Strike, and quickly found out that his newly learnt Asura Strike could complement his Storing Power. This way, Asura Strike’s offensive power would become even more terrifying.

If he was by himself, he wouldn’t possibly use Storing Power in the midst of a battle against many enemies; that would be a suicidal move. However, never forget that Long Haochen also could rely on Haoyue’s assistance. Sitting on Haoyue’s back, he had a enough time to complete Storing Power, and managed to use this Fiend Commander as the very first offering to his Asura Strike.

With close to 3,000 units of spiritual energy stored inside, this Asura Strike was so powerful that even Long Haochen couldn’t help but be in shock. Only, at the current time, he couldn’t possibly wallow in this feeling.

During his return, he noticed with astonishment that the Soul Sharing Shackles caused him to suffer intense pain. As a knight, he naturally could heal his own injuries along with Haoyue’s, but how couldn’t he have guessed that his companions had met with danger? Hurrying Haoyue on to return at full speed, he started storing power in preparation for Asura Strike even before coming out of the cave. Long Haochen was convinced that the enemies were bound to have powerhouses among their ranks, so the top priority was to inflict serious damage to the other side’s leader.

Furthermore, the appearance of the Pendant of Eternal Melody could be said to have brought Long Haochen the ability to use the spiritual cavity of a knight at the sixth step. After fully using any offensive ability, his speed of recovery was thrice as fast as before. Further adding Yating’s assistance, he could recover his spiritual energy at a monstrous rate of twenty units per second. Long Haochen was completely sure that this Pendant of Eternal Melody was at least a piece of equipment at the Legendary Tier, and this was only his most conservative estimate.

Putting the Nine Long Steps into use, Long Haochen’s silhouette went back and forth the enemies’ ranks. He was currently extremely anxious because he had an ominous restless feeling ever since he exited the cavern, and that feeling of anxiety caused him to feel extremely nervous.

Lightning Thrust spread like illusory reflections on water. This wasn’t the original Lightning Thrust, but a Lightning Thrust that used the supplement Ripples of Light. Considering Long Haochen’s current cultivation, how could these mere Grand Fiends resist him?

Brilliant World glinted from the back, and Little Light’s backup of spiritual energy entered Long Haochen’s body. Little Flame and Little Wind also kept chanting one lower ranked spell after another to cover his flanks.

None of the Grand Fiends managed to block Long Haochen’s Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light. As its radiance spread, Pop Pop sounds unceasingly rung out.

To a Retribution Knight, Lightning Thrust was nothing more than a low ranked skill, one that a powerhouse of a higher step would generally only use against an enemy of lower step, or when combining it along with other abilities. This was because Lightning Thrust scattered strength, enabling one to launch numerous series of attacks without consuming too much spiritual energy. Thus, higher ranked knights would in reality rarely use it.

However, this skill was completely changed in Long Haochen’s hands. After obtaining Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light, Lightning Thrust underwent a huge increase in power. Keeping its dazzling power as a pure light technique, while gaining the piercing power of water. Adding on to the power of Ripples of Light, this attack’s strength reached a whole new level.

Long Haochen comprehended the Ripples of Light just recently, and hadn’t really had the time to improve Lightning Thrust until now, but even so, these ordinary Grand Fiends and their mounts couldn’t possibly stop him.

Cooperating with Han Daosi and Li Xin, the rest of the battle rapidly concluded, and the entirety of the Grand Fiend Cavalry was wiped out. If some had wanted to escape, what could they do against the aerial persecution of the Rose Unicorn? Each and any of them was easily disposed of by Li Xin.

“Haochen, you’re finally back!” Li Xin dismounted her Rose Unicorn and returned to the ground, but at the time she arrived before Long Haochen, she discovered with astonishment that Long Haochen’s body was trembling as he stood there.

Following Long Haochen’s gaze, she discovered that close ahead, Cai’er was standing still like a sculpture. Even with the intense battle that was occurring nearby, she didn’t have any reaction. She just motionlessly stood there like a human-sized puppet.

“Cai’er…” Long Haochen’s voice was shaking, and with a glint, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light autonomously disappeared from his hand. Taking a few steps while using the Assault technique, he arrived in front of Cai’er in a split second.

With a dark golden glint of radiance, Cai’er attempted to lift her right hand, but remained unsuccessful, as she directly collapsed into Long Haochen’s embrace.

Tightly holding her, Long Haochen instantly launched a Holy Mantle without hesitation, enveloping Cai’er and himself in it. However, he quickly discovered that Cai’er’s life wasn’t endangered in any way, only her consumption of spiritual energy was massive; it was the case for both her internal and external spiritual energy. After falling in Long Haochen’s warm embrace, she couldn’t even move a finger.

“How could this happen? How could this happen! It’s all because I arrived so late!” Long Haochen felt regretful that he didn’t get back earlier. With his intelligence, even in a state of total confusion, he could still clearly realize why his teammates had fought this battle of life and death.

This was all because of my mistake of judgment! I believed that no demons would come here for the time being, which was why I stayed away for so long. It’s all my fault!

Long Haochen was filled with self-reproach, before finally seeing the massacred corpse of the Fiend Lord.

Such an enormous Fiend accompanied by a Nightmare Devil Horse? Long Haochen gently caressed Cai’er’s head, “Idiot, how could you use the Stove of Samsara again? It’s all my fault…” Tightly pulling Cai’er in his embrace, Long Haochen felt distressed to the point that he couldn’t breath. As he held Cai’er tightly, his eyes became totally red.

Kill them, KILL THEM ALL! 凸ಠ益ಠ)凸

How mother fucking dare they harm his Queen!  (╬ಠ益ಠ)

    • Juš Leskovec

To be honest, she harmed herself using the Stove of Samsara. Though they were the ones who made her use it…

      • Jonathan Hurd

Who cares how she got injured. The important thing is Waifu is hurt and someone needs to pay for this… Preferably with their life.

    • Jonathan Hurd

      My life for Waifu!

  • Daene Kendrick

Simply WoW, he shows up and then poof they all die. I really want to find out why Lin Xin cant cast offensive magic.

    • Jonathan Hurd

I think after what just happened hes going to have to spill it or else people might really attack him…

      • Daene Kendrick

Well not really he could play it off as having discovered a way to harness the sound into increasing his attack power. At most he can say he found the necklace within the cavern and that could be the end of it. It all depends on how much they actually question him right away. If they wait till they recover he can figure out a way to avoid it all together. Sorry you ment Lin Xin I still remember the thread discussing the Tower previously

        • Robin

Not Haochen. He was referring to our favorite mage who definitely angered the 4th DHS with his complete uselessness in a dire situation when one of their team even used the life draining technique.

          • Daene Kendrick

Yea after going back I realized he was commenting on the last line of the original post and edited earlier. Either way both will be in a position of needing to explain something.

          • Robin

Yes, but Lin Xin drastically more than Haochen who in the end saved the day. But the next chapter looks promising and the title hints that we might finally get some answers.

          • Daene Kendrick

I also wonder if he will have absorbed the energy drops from the defeated Fiends and mounts, as he did with the skeletons? I can see this as the one thing he subconsciously uses from his new necromancer powers.

          • Robin

I am not sure if the skeletons are not special in this regard. They were in the end created by Elux to serve as training elements aiming to make Haochen stronger. They probably are different than normal demons.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I agree with Robin on the skeletons. I think the spiritual energy gained after defeating the skeletons is basically a reward for after the trial. I think Elux set them up as a sort of incentive for his apprentice to keep challenging the tests and progress through the tower more quickly. Also I think those first ones were specifically put there to give his apprentice a taste of the rewards he would receive from continuing onwards.

          • Jonathan Hurd

No worries on the confusion. 😀 I can imagine LHC getting away without going into full detail about what he found in the tower. I mean hell at this point most of the team has collapsed from exhaustion and is probably not in the right mind set to question the move he just used. I’m not sure how visible the skull is since it seemed like it fused with LHC and it was pretty small anyways so it could be hidden under his clothes for now.
Lin Xin on the other hand has some major splaining to do. If LHC had shown up a moment later they would all be dead… It would all be because Lin Xin couldn’t launch even one attack against the paralyzed Sixth Step guy who was being completely restrained for him.

          • Robin

Yes, Haochen only would need to explain things right away if he took them with him into the tower.
Lin Xin truly disappointed everyone in this situation and I guess he needs a damn good explanation. Even Li Xin will doubt him more now, maybe especially since Haochen praised his worth before.

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair Lin Xin actually did step up and try to block the 6th step guy and it was only thanks to his pills that they even managed to live to that point anyways. We do need a reason why he couldn’t attack but overall his additions to the team have been in no way small.

          • Robin

We know about his important contribution and the 21st DHS does. But in all that chaos I am not so sure if the 4th DHS grasped that he is the person making the pills that saved them and that he did all he could.
Naturally, his support was in no regard small and he fought as hard as the others, but still in the most important moment he chikened out. And this is the most obvious deed of this fight.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah…. Its kind of hard to justify not being able to deliver a critical attack when Cai’er and the Spatial mage basically pushed themselves to the point of breaking. Han Doasi broke both his arms. Han Yu and Sima XIan are probably close to Han Doasi’s condition and even Yin Er’s piggy fought to the point of being grievously wounded. Being the only guy left with reserves in your tank out of all the backline people who fought with their lives on the line…. Yeah an explanation as to why he can’t attack needs to be given or I’m afraid the 4th Demon Hunt Squad might just split ways here.

          • Daene Kendrick

I doubt they will split ways as long as Hao Chen is around. Their best best for advancement is working with him. His presence alone allows for them to take on nearly impossible odds, also if given time I am sure the others will realize just how much effort he put into this fight as well with all the defense spells he casted allowing those who were defending to last as long as they did. Then of course the members of the 21st can explain the pills use, all in all they should realize that nothing is what it should be with the 21st. The youngest of them all is the leader and strongest pillar. The most dangerous of them all is his girlfriend. a priest who cant heal but can fight, a shield warrior who cant really defend, not to mention the summoner didnt summon the gate in this battle either maybe had she done that a truly powerful beast would have been summoned.

Nothing is ever what it should be with the 21st General Squad.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Oh definitely, Lin Xin with his pills is definitely a big help and its not like he ran away from the enemy in front of him. I feel like they need to know at this point why he can’t attack but other than that he is still an important part of the 21st demon hunt squad. I think as far as Yin Er goes it seems her piggy can borrow from her energy to help him with his transformations. Actually casting the Creature Summoning Gate usually takes everything she has so I am not sure she had enough in the reserve tanks to cast that after her piggy transformed into a birdy demon and fought that long.

          • Robin

It wasn’t Han Daosi who got hurt. Han Daosi is the assassin who is still fighting outside with Li Xin. I guess if the assassin would have taken this hit, he had instantly died. The one with the broken arms is Dian Yan, I think he is the warrior of the team.

And they can’t split there if they want to survive the retur to the Alliance. But there will be hard feelings and accusations until the matter is sorted out. On the longterm there is no problem with explaining so that the 4th squad will see his good sides, but he will need a good explanation or there should still remain some resentment for endangering them.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah, Freaking 4th squad bad with keeping their names straight, lol. It is hard to tell whether they would be willing to continue like this if Lin Xin doesn’t explain. I mean on one hand leaving LHC who is such an awesome leader and also going it alone when their warrior is now sans weapons and their mage is in a coma is just plain suicidal. Still hard to offer trust after what just happened. In the end a good explanation is required and they have some downtime anyways to make the decision. I feel like LHC would want to respect Lin Xin’s feelings but it is in everyone’s best interests to clear the bad air.

          • Robin

I also had to look the name up, I only knew it wasn’t the assassin.
Their return will be interesting in either way. Not only their warrior has lost his weapons. Sima Xian and Han Yu have also broken theirs. Haochen might provide Han Yu with the shield and Spirit sword he no longer uses, which would be funny since they were gifted to him by Han Yu’s grandfather, but the others will lack fighting tools in addition to being hurt. This will matter if they plan their next moves. To risk facing another batallion with a highly diminushed fighting prowess would be dangerous. And this doesn’t really change even after they healed some of their injuries.

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair I can’t imagine them running into another fight they will be forced to fight. The caravan one was because they were completely surrounded and they weren’t even the demons goal that time. The first Fiend troop was because the fiends were heading to their goal. The last one was because the fiends were again heading to their goal and also LHC. So if all they want to do is return home there is no real reason to start hostilities with anything especially if they use their disguises. I imagine they rest up for a few days to the point people heal up enough to move and then head on home. Considering it took Cai’er about a month to regain her senses last time she used her Spiritual Stove, the loss of weapons, and the bone fractures I can’t imagine anymore fighting this trip.

          • Robin

Don’t underestimate the evil nature of authors. 😉
As you said, they have a lot of options to avoid fighting, as long as the author let them use them.

          • Daene Kendrick

I am sure Han Yu has other equipment, I am sure his grandfather also gifted him a set ontop of what he had at the tournament when he found out how important Hao Chen was to the future of the alliance. Really they have atleast 1 full team of fighters left, Long Hao Chen, Li Xin, Haosi, Warrior girl, Lin Xin, Han Yu can use Hao Chen old equipment, Luc Xin and both summoners can still fight. The spatial mage, the shield warrior from 4th squad and Caier can ride Hao Yue back and he can of course fight as well as Rose Unicorn. They arent totally defensless they are still pretty strong group. Caier Doesnt really need to fight she can just throw off her killing intent as an aura to distract many opponents

          • Robin

No, they are far from defenseless or even strengthless. But to fight while protecting injured members puts a lot more burden on the attackers/defenders. It is not the optimal fighting condition when you don’t know what they may encounter. I look forward to their next steps.

  • Vishal Patel

kill dem!!! they hurt your waifu!

  • kuroneko25

    Thanks for the chapter

  • Dicky

    Dude… that teaser…

    • Robin

There we have our long awaited kiss. ^^
Although I expected it to be a little more romantic, it is still cute as hell. I guess Li Xin next to them is turning bright red.

      • Daene Kendrick

I dont think the rose unicorn will have anything on the redness of her cheeks lol

        • Robin

Well, she probably was never kissed before, and especially not in such a way. As she was almost obsessed with the beauty and perfection of Haochen when he was smaller and the age difference rued her, now her standards for a guy surely went up again. 😉

          • Daene Kendrick

True but she will be setting herself up for future heart brake as how could anyone compare to the Scion of Light, and if he gains 1 more point in his innate level what will he evolve into, as Ca’ier went from the scion to the daughter of samsara when her innate jumped to 100 he was laster reported as 99

          • Robin

Yes, there is no match for him. At least no easily found one. But I hope his title won’t change when he gains this point. Saint/Holy Son of Light sounds not as good as Scion of Light in my opinion.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I’m not sure that Li Xin has no romantic experience. Since if I remember correctly the reason she always quarreled with that frost mage from Hao Yue City was because some boy was trying to date both of them at the same time. I am a little hazy on those details admittedly and there wasn’t much to start though, lol.

On a side note, yup who could match the Scion of Light for a boyfriend? Oh sure there are other men out there and I’m sure that Li Xin will find someone perfect for her, but LHC is just perfect in general. Which works wonders since hes perfect for Cai’er and they’re Perfect together. They make the perfect cute match. 😀

On another side note…. WE FINALLY GOT THE KISS WE WERE PROMISED AT LEAST 50 CHAPTERS AGO, WOOOOH! As Robin said not in the most romantic way yet but hell maybe there will be another after this one. Hopefully when Waifu has a little more energy.

          • Robin

Well, that is even too far back that I don’t clearly remember. There was some background story about a guy trying to doubletime but I doubt that they really had more than romantic feelings. Holding hands at most. In this kind of novels such relationships usually include a period of wooing from the male part before there is a first success like a kiss. And I doubt her judgement is so bad that she didn’t noticed the scam soon enough.

And this was at least 3 yers ago, even if she is older than Haochen, she was still very young around then. And Haochen and Cai’er are a little precocious, aren’t they? But yeah, they are really perfect together!

          • Daene Kendrick

I thought she was in her twenties?

          • Robin

I have to admit, I am not sure. I thought she is about 18. But I would not swear ist.

          • Daene Kendrick

Nope she is 22, I am sure she atleast kissed that one guy. That would be the only real reason she could possibly have been so angry with the other girl. Even though I do know many women who get angry over lesser faults. (men included)

          • Robin

Okay, I had a wrong age in mind. Well, from my experience there are a lot of woman, and men, who react over smaller faux pas’ as well, especially regarding their first love. Given that the rivalry erupted with someone she considered her best friend, there probably didn’t need to be a kiss included, but according to her age you are right, it is likely she was kissed before. 😉
But since it resulted in such a childish cat-fight between the two girls, I am not so sure about the depth of her feelings for said guy.

  • Ragnarok

Omg such an epic chapter. I suppose he didn’t notice Cai’er immobile or he would definitely have gone total beast mode.

  • VanillaCustardPie

    Thank you~

  • lordcattank

thank you very much for the chapter

  • Gator

    thanks for the chapter totobro

  • Evilage

I waited so many chapters and that was it?….
i get a feeling that cai’er will like kissing him later on(since she liked sleeping with him)
and how can she tremble after the kiss if she cant move, the medicine??
anyways thanks for the chapter totobro

    • Robin

I am sure she will show him her gratitude later on. And since he once kissed her, maybe he will not be that hemmed when he will do it again? I see a really romantic kiss coming when she recuperated.
The trembling is more of an unvoluntary reaction than a movement, so it should still be possible. And the medicine should also have given her a power up.

      • Jonathan Hurd

From what it said it seems Cai’er is basically on the last bit of her stamina so it makes moving her body hard. The shaking though is coming naturally from the body unconsciously probably relying on her embarrassment for energy.

I think the reason this kiss was done so smoothly by LHC was that his concern for her and trying to help her far out weighs any embarrassment in the moment. I betcha we get a cute blush remembrance seen later on after this, looking forward to that :D. I’m just guessing but I think next time Cai’er will be the one to initiate the second kiss because she enjoyed the first one. She has shown to be a pretty direct person who does what makes her happy and damn what others think.

        • Robin

I completely agree with you. Haochen will so be flustered about this when he has time to think about it. This guy thinks too damn much… Cai’er is probably also relieved that he is back safe and sound and her plan to buy time was successful. Haochen is there so nothing bad can happen. 😉

Yes, as soon as she sees how flustered he is, knowing her character, she will be tempted to kiss him again. She was the one who first thought about kissing when he only wanted to invite her for a meal. She surey won’t hesitate after enjoying the experience once. Even though she couldn’t express it then.

          • Jonathan Hurd

This time she can mentally prepare, Lol.

          • Robin

Yeeeeeees! And he will be taken by surprise. 😉

          • Jonathan Hurd

Gotta admit I would pay to read Cai’er surprising him with a kiss, lol. To be fair though she does have a certain shy side to her when it comes to him, but she is also pretty true to her desires. It will be interesting to see how this evolves with some down time coming up hopefully when they get back to town we get more innocent romance scenes.

    • Majk

I hope that once she recovers she will asks him for a kiss since this one doesn’t count 😉

You know because it was an emergency and she lost some of her scenes

    • Stephen_H

I had read this twice, because I thought I missed this kiss…..Then I read the preview 🙂

  • Iric Alexis

    thanks for the chapter..
gratz for LHC.. hope his newly technique asura strike worth cai’er or other companion suffer.. welll at least LHC got the kiss…

    • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair I would guess if you asked LHC he would most certainly say that nothing is worth his comrades suffering. He’ll probably learn from this and not be so relaxed when away from the team. This basically happened because of his complacency. Thankfully this time it ended with no permanent damage and the lesson was taught early. Add one more powerhouse into that fiend demon team and they would all be dead long before LHC showed up.

      • Robin

You say complacency, but you could also call it trust. Haochen trusted his teammates enough to let them keep watch and defend themselves, because even if he didn’t anticipate such a cavalry, they are deep in the enemy territory so there are always dangers around. Without this trust in their abilities he would never have left in the first place.
And to be fair, they did an amazing job out there! There were sacrifices, sue, but they still managed to survive against such a powerful foe. This should give them a certain push to their confidence, because they are already strong enough to do such a feat. Add Haochen to this pool of power and you have something amazing. Before they couldn’t be sure what they can really do on their own and which part is Haochen’s contribution. Now they know.

        • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah this is definitely an eye opening moment for the other members as well. It helped Han Yu see just how big the difference between him and LHC is and the sort of pressure LHC has been constantly facing. It also showed them just how much they have been relying on LHC and Hao Yue in these tough spots. I agree LHC definitely has trust in his team otherwise he would never have left for the cave alone to begin with. However, he assumed that he had plenty of time and therefore was much more relaxed looking through the tower than he needed to be. He could of held off on taking the towers first trial and returned. After he got Elux’s approval there was no more danger and he was set there. He could of finished recovering his energy on Hao Yue’s back after the trial while heading back. He was working around the assumption that no danger would be coming to the team and that proved to be fundamentally flawed. This situation helped reinforce to him just how dangerous demon territory is and that you should always be vigilant. Its not so much a problem of whether or not the team could survive or not. The problem is he is the core of the team and he was missing for this intense battle. I mean the whole reason they ended up having to fight this overwhelming opponent was because LHC was still in the cave otherwise they could of just hidden themselves.

          • Robin

Agreed, a neglect of duty was given from the point he had to summon Haoyue and didn’t rush back as soon as he could. I guess all of them haven’t internalized yet that they are no longer individuals but first and foremost members of a team. Normal DHSs would have time to learn this lesson slowly but if you immediately want to howl with the wolves, you have to toughen up faster, or pay the price.

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair its not really that normal to be able to fight people a step higher than you much less two steps. Cai’er and LHC are kind of the freaks in those cases. This whole experience is a good lesson for everyone. It taught LHC that assumptions can be dangerous. It also helped show the utility of Lin Xin’s pills and Yin Er’s piggy. I think both teams pulled together very well and in a good way. The big thing that pushed things to such a desperate point was that 7th step fiend. Without him Cai’er could of easily picked off more people and would not have had to go so all out. On the bright side both teams have a huge supply of Contribution points waiting for them back home. Not even including the mission completion bonus LHC’s team has killed 3 seventh step guys and about 14 sixth step guys. The 4th soldier team even managed to snag themselves a 6th step as well. That is not even including all the cannon fodder and horses killed as well.

So getting Han Yu and Sima Xian new weapons is a given what else do you think they’ll spend their points on? I hope LHC goes in for a better shield personally. I am not sure if his Holy Spirit one has a self repair function like his previous shield. If it doesn’t then it has three huge dents in it now from that Scarlet Beserker. I kind of like your idea of giving Han Yu LHC’s Holy Spirit sword and Shield. Maybe he could gift Han Yu the rest of the set and buy himself a new armor. That way they can keep the benefit of the Holy Spirit set and LHC can use Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light.

          • Robin

I am so curious about their contribution points. I guess the other squads will faint if they learn about this. There is no way they will reach them even after years of accepting loweer leveled missions. This will be a feast. ^.^
I don’t know about any repair function of his set, but it seems legit if it is of the same or higher quality than his former shield. It would suit Han Yu really well and I like the idea. Mh, they will pay their debt, maybe already set the fee for their little house for the next years 😉 and probably buy those pills which help them advance. And of course upgrade their equipment and skills.
Li Xin will insist on saving a lot to buy magical crystals to add their own collection. The piggy proved its worth during those fights. And some money to feed Haoyue… There are many ways to spend their newly gained wealth.

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair I don’t think I can like this author anymore than I do, but if he actually included a page in which Yang Whenzhao is hitting his head on a table after hearing about this amount of points that would make me so happy, :D. I feel like Lin Xin has magic crystals coming out of his ears at this point, hehe. I am looking forward to what new pills we get since he has the corpses of three new 7th steppers to use and all those 6th steppers.

          • Robin

Yes, I will see this too! He won’t only turn green of envy but purple and black as well!
They collected quite an amount of crystals but maybe a little diversity to add to this won’t hurt. 😉
Lin Xin has his pockets so full that they could explode any moment. You are probably right, any more fights and he will cry because he doesn’t know which of his trophies to keep and which to exchange. 😛

          • Jonathan Hurd

First thing to buy…. Bigger storage ring. Top of that shopping list, haha.

LHC: Mouth to mouth its the only way!

Doubters: But sir… shes just low on energy….

LHC: Nonsense mouth to mouth solves all problems!

  • Jonathan Hurd

Okay, so I guess it is finally time to start the true guessing game as to why Lin Xin cannot use Offensive magic. For a while I was wondering if it was a wouldn’t use it, but seeing as even with his life on the line he still won’t I think its safe to say he probably can’t.

The theories I can come up with basically fall along two lines. One is a trauma in his past. He was a normal magician for a while and then because he screwed up with a attack spell he ended up hurting someone or himself. Considering that he has such a beautiful appearance and can still use magic I would assume its not that he ended up getting burned by his own magic.

The second theory I have is that he has a specialized body type. To be fair this hypothesis seems a bit less likely. If it was due to a constitution that inhibited him then he would probably be closer to Yin Er. Understanding he is useless but not really feeling guilty because he knows it can’t be helped.

To be completely honest his situation has always been a bit strange to me. If it was a direct trauma then I would expect he would have fear of battle or all magic, but what he can’t do is limited to just offensive magic. Also considering how great his control of magic is him screwing up using it so it backfires also seems unlikely. My personal theory is that he tried to protect someone or use his offensive magic to save someone and it ended up hurting them. He still wants to help and fight, but can’t bring himself to use offensive spells since then.

    • Robin

Many chaps before there was a theory about his mother playing a role in his trauma. I think it went like this: as a child he was a powerful magician and as arrogant as he is nowadays from time to time. But he lacked control and went overboard, probably to impress someone in his family. We always get the vibes that his family is rich and provides him with wealth, but doesn’t really care about him. Him being this happy about a simple praise would fit this theory.
Thinking he was amazing and/or going overboard to impress someone, he hurt a person dear to him, probably his mother. Maybe even killed per accident.
Afterwards, he is unable to use attack magic due to a mental blockade and became a control freak. Mastering the control of his magic up to perfection. Him showing this weakness openly would also coincide with the low opinion his family has of him afterwards, seeing him as a nuisance despite his magical power and his alchemical achievements.

      • Jonathan Hurd

That does sound like a pretty sound theory. I was thinking his Mom might be involved as well. It would also make sense if it was his personality that led to some kind of tragedy. I remember back when Lin Xin stood up to Sheng Yue and tried to dissolve Sheng Yue’s wrath against LHC his grandfather was impressed and said he was proud of him. Lin Xin then commented he wished she could see that moment. It could be that his mom not being able to see it is due to his failings in the past. That moment of standing up to Sheng Yue showed his grandfather that his grandson had grown and was not just frivolous conman with a thousand plans to benefit himself, but actually is willing to stand in front of danger to help comrades and take responsibility for his actions.

Seeing Lin Xin’s personality he really does seem like the driven type. It feels like he could of tried so hard to master his magic to make it better than everyone else and learned alchemy to try to achieve his dream working around this handicap. While it might have been a better path to face the trauma (assuming that is the problem) this seems like a realistic way of getting around the problem. Thing is this fight has made it pretty damn clear that he needs to be able to use offense magic or it could result in the destruction of the entire team. As I said in another post if LHC had been a moment later they would all be dead right now. If he could use any offense spell he could of taken out that 6th step Fiend who was paralyzed and then left the clean up to Li Xin and Daosi.

I think it would be pretty cool if after this if his problem is a trauma, then LHC and the rest of the team work together to help him heal it. Knowing LHC there is no way he lets Lin Xin take all the blame for that situation that happened. I mean hell if LHC had returned sooner from the tower they would never have been in that desperate of a straight to start.

        • Robin

I like the theory as well and think it is sound. If you look at him from an independent standpoint, he is a really gifted magician with a lot of potential. And he is also not a bad character who IS ready to risk his life for his comrades, as you named with him confronting Sheng Yue to safe Haochen. He then was ready to abort the promise they made to solve the crisis, so he is not that selfish at all.
There is no way Haochen would let him bear the brunt of the accusations and complaints that will likely come from the 4th DHS. First, he feels too damn guilty that he wasn’t there himself to protect them. And second, he knows that his reasons are a tender subject. Remember when leader Gao adressed this problem and Li Xin was all down even though he tried hard not to let it show? Then, Haochen noticed it and wanted to help without intruding. You can bet everything that he will protect his freind by stepping up for him.
But I am still curious if we at least got close to the truth with our speculations…

          • poggle

I rather b both trauma and special body, because with trauma man can muscle throught but bioliogy is different perhap he has a special like LHC, Caier and Chener, but it require a cost, I like to he’s a blood mage, dark mage, and he either learned spell from a school, or he can only use attack spell from that school, or his power is sealed.

          • Jonathan Hurd

That could be cool admittedly. It would be interesting if as you said he has a special body which led to him being traumatized. Trauma from fire going out of control is a pretty standard tale especially considering how volatile it is, but if he actually has a different element in his body that he could use to attack that would be interesting to see as well. The story has already shown us that there exist mages with more than one element so its not really that farfetched an idea.

Admittedly though it would be pretty funny to have yet another special body in the team. That would mean everyone but Wang Yuanyuan and Han Yu has a special body. LHC’s Scion of Light, Cai’er’s Daughter of Samsara, Yin Er’s body of chaos, and even Sima Xian’s body that holds the light element and the ability to beserk. Heck, if you include the fact that Wang Yuanyuan’s shield is a blood legacy weapon you might be able to include that in as a special body too. They really are an strange but special team of misfits.

          • Daene Kendrick

It could be a vow he made to his mother on her deathbed to never harm anyone. Either way we may find out soon.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Hmm, considering the amount of demons around it would be pretty weird to promise your mom not to hurt anyone though that is a possibility. He could of promised her or himself that he would be someone who protects rather than hurts. Still seems like a mental block is a little more likely since considering his character I don’t think he would be the type to just watch his comrades die for a promise, and not knowing his mom I would still guess she would not want him to do that either.

I am counting that as the long awaited kiss we were promised

  • Jeminy

Everyone, what about Yi Jun who fainted into a coma?! How can you guys forget that poor guy over Cai’er who is still healthy (albeit without a couple of her senses for a while..). But come on, I don’t want ANY of these little babies to die before they mature. I’m excited about the kiss too (blush, fangirl screams inside) but I find it sooo, ugh, that Long Haochen can’t seem to care about other more injured members too.

    • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair… he is inside of the cave and not easily seen from outside. Its not that LHC only cares about Cai’er, but she is his girlfriend and the person he swore to protect. She also used a Spiritual Stove that could potentially kill her by itself. I do feel bad for Yi Jun but its not really LHC’s responsibility to look after him that is Luc Xi’s. Besides both Yi Jun and Cai’er right now are in critical condition with probably everyone else excluding Lin Xin, Li Xin, the 4th’s assassin, and LHC.

      • Daene Kendrick

Yes he is in a Coma but his Team Leader Luc Xin the priest is there with him, and he only passed out into a comma because he used up his spiritual energy, big bro has drugs and the priest can fix that. As far as the only reaction really being LHC and Cai’er well she was in plain sight once he arrived and he could feel the pain his team was going through using the soul link. He has no idea how bad everything is but his first responsibility is to the woman he was willing to give everything up for. Remeber his decleration to all the big shots saying oyu either do this or im out. He put his feelings for her ahead of any hope for the future of humanity.

        • Robin

As you already said, Haochen had no time so far to have a look inside the cavern since he obviously not appeared from within it but from somewhere else. He already shared the pain of his team members through the chains and knows that they shouldn’t be in critical condition. But well, Cai’er simply stood like a zombie in plain sight in the middle of a bloody battlefield after killing the most dangerous bigshot. She deserves some care and love right now. And although he could probably cast a Holy Mantle for those injured members of the 4th squad, he is no priest and his healing ability limited. I am sure he will do for them what he can as soon as he knows that Cai’er is safe and he had the chance to get a clear picture of the situation.
